Office furniture

The client for this project is Ahrend, www.ahrend.com, Royal Ahrend is a global company, present in more than 25 countries and is always talking to different clients, users and societies. Ahrend continuously collaborates to create functional, sustainable solutions.

The design project will be in cooperation with Ahrend and will focus on the changing behavior of the “office worker”. Due to the Covid19 pandemic, a new distribution of work at home, on the road and in the office is in place. This is an opportunity for Ahrend to release a new line of products.

Next Fashion Retail

Next Fashion Retail is subsidized by the National Agency for Practical Research SIA and is a collaboration between The Hague University of Applied Sciences, TMO Fashion Business School, CUBE retail, retailers and industry partners Modint, Inretail and Euretco. The Hague University of Applied Sciences and TMO Fashion Business School, together with CUBE retail, are the implementing parties. Students from these colleges carry out research and design innovations in co-creation with the retailers. Representatives of more knowledge institutions are also involved in the Advisory Council.

Next Fashion Retail wants to research how services, expertise, the atmosphere and the unique retail experience can influence the buying behaviour for sustainable clothing and what role the SME multi-brand retailer can play in this customer journey. This involves knowledge of consumer needs (1), influencing behaviour (2) and the test results of different retail approaches (3) to persuade consumers to make a (more) sustainable purchase.

Although consumers indicate that they value sustainable aspects of clothing, the range of sustainable clothing offered by SME multi-brand fashion retailers doesn't sell well. Next Fashion Retail (NFR) has formulated the research question: How can SME multi-brand fashion retailers design their customer journey to increase the sales of (more) sustainable clothing?

Hollandse luchten (Dutch Skies)

'Hollandse Luchten' (Dutch Skies) is a citizens' science project where citizens measure air quality in their environment in the Province of North Holland. The importance of a healthy living environment is becoming increasingly evident. The realization that air quality plays an important role in this is therefore rapidly growing. https://hollandseluchten.waag.org/

While the data collected by the sensors is available on the platform of Hollandse Luchten, we face the challenge of truly engaging citizens in this stage. We are interested in creative and innovative ways to communicate and visualize the data that is collected by the sensors. This can be in any form, from data visualizations or creative communication strategies to interactive objects or experiences

Windshield Wiper

The client for this project is Etricity, www.etricity.nl. Etricity has designed a 3-wheel electric vehicle meant for everyday transportation as well as for fun. It is called the Etrike. The target group consists of people who want to drive an environmentally friendly vehicle as well as people who are motorcycle riders looking for a vehicle that gives the sensation of riding a motorcycle but has the advantages of a car.

Due to the unique shape of the vehicle, windshield wipers cannot be applied in their current standard form. There is limited space to house the motor of the windshield wipers.
The direct assignment of the client is to design a wiper mechanism. The wiper blade & motor are already existing parts which should not be our main point of attention. The mechanism for the wiper(s), the location of the wiper(s), the orientation of the wiper(s) and the location of the motor of the wiper(s) are what we need to consider.
